Summer Update

Hi there, friends!  Life has been crazy lately, but in a fun, relaxing, “ignore social media and read a book instead” kind of way.  I have been enjoying my time with Gavin so much!  Our days have been filled with the pool, play dates, music class, story time, playing with the neighbors, and traveling.  I still have over a month left of break also, so I am soaking all of this time in.

We returned yesterday from a quick jaunt to Myrtle Beach to visit the Mothership.  Uncle Ducky was also visiting for a night.  Gavin was super excited to have another friend to harass  play with.  The weather was incredible!  Although humid, I don’t think temps hit 80 degrees when I was there, so we spent most of the time relaxing on the screened-in porch.  We enjoyed the cooler weather while we had it, since a heat wave is on the way for the upcoming weekend.

For this post, I thought I would share a few pictures of some of our most recent fun.  Let’s back it up a few days, shall we?

On Thursday, Kenny and I were able to sneak away for a date night.  Our pick?  Seasons 52.  Raleigh recently just had a location open in the Crabtree Valley Mall.  For those of you not familiar, the restaurant offers much healthier and fresher options, with fairly low-calorie counts.  (Certainly for a restaurant!)  The menu also changes seasonally.  Portion sizes are a bit smaller than you would typically receive, which obviously helps.  I had the filet, and it was outstanding.  (Thank you so much to a kind parent, who generously gifted me with a night out at this restaurant.  So sweet).

Last weekend, I also headed to Williamsburg, VA for the evening for a girls’ weekend with my college friends.  Although I was only able to stay for the night, I had a blast!  However,  I must say that it was a scorcher.  Williamsburg temps hit 100, so most of the time was spent poolside.  We did grab dinner at The Cozy Patio Bistro, which was outstanding.  (It does not appear that they have a website?)  However, it was authentic Cajun Style food, with a jazzy atmosphere.  Afterwards, we hit up DoG Street Pub to sample some brews.

For those of you heading to Williamsburg in the future, especially with a larger group, be sure to check out Kingsgate Resort.  We have stayed here the past two summers, and been thoroughly impressed with both the convenience of the location, as well as the amenities offered.  From the adults-only pool, to the mini-putt course, tiki bar, and fire pits, this place thought of everything!

Funny enough, my brother Patrick and his family were in town from Boston for my niece Grace’s basketball tournament.  I was able to meet them for breakfast before I left, which worked out really well.

Some more fun things on my most recent agenda?  A baby shower for my sweet friend Erin, who is expecting a baby girl in early September.

I loved watching Erin open her gifts, while I caught up with my work friends Emmie and Michelle.

If you are heading to a baby shower soon and need some ideas of practical items, check out my post here.

Some other fun things that have been going on?  Well, cousin time, of course!

My niece Reagan is seven months younger than Gavin, and the two of them have a blast playing together.  Here they are last month, when we met up at the Greensboro Science Center.  (FYI…..Highly recommend if you live locally to Greensboro/Raleigh/Winston-Salem.  I found the size of the facility and the different exhibits to be thoroughly impressive).

I will leave you with this cute pic of Gavin for now.  My big, big boy!  What has happened to my little guy?  He told me before I snapped this pic that he was “chilling, mom.”  Say what??

Talk soon, friends!  If you are in the South, stay cool this weekend!

Heather 🙂
